Edit your videos with Claude Code or Codex

Film one take. Claude cuts every pause and retake, captions it, finds real B-roll and adds the effects. You approve a storyboard before anything renders. Free kit, works on Windows and Mac.

Free. No sign-up. Works with a Claude Pro or Max plan, or a ChatGPT plan with Codex.

Same take, edited by Claude

Raw take (1:58)
Edited by the kit (1:28)

One phone video, one sentence to Claude. It removed 30 seconds of pauses and four restarted lines, then added the captions, B-roll and effects.

What it does

  • Cuts like an editor. Every pause goes, every “um” goes, and when you restart a line it keeps your last clean take. Each cut is checked against the actual audio, so it never clips a word.
  • Captions that get names right. Word-timed captions with the spoken word highlighted. A built-in word list fixes what transcription gets wrong (“Cloud Code” becomes “Claude Code”), and you can add your own names.
  • Finds real B-roll. For every feature or tool you mention, Claude looks for the real thing: official demo clips, product pages and docs. When nothing exists, it rebuilds the app’s interface so it looks like a screen recording.
  • 46 effects, ready to use. Text behind your head, kinetic hooks, magazine covers, sticker cut-outs, chat-app recreations, follow and comment cards and more. Browse them with previews and pick with one click.
  • Shows you the plan first. You get a storyboard of every section and effect. Nothing renders until you say yes.
  • Checks its own work. It can’t watch the video, so it measures it: frame sheets, safe zones, loudness, and a check for any phrase said twice.

What you need

  • A Claude Pro or Max plan (Claude Code isn’t on the free plan), or a ChatGPT plan that includes Codex.
  • A Windows or Mac computer with about 2 GB free.
  • A vertical video of you talking to camera. Film in 1080p or 4K if you can.

Everything else is free: ffmpeg, Node.js, Python and HyperFrames (the open-source tool that turns Claude’s designs into video). You don’t need CapCut, Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.

Set it up in 15 minutes

  1. Download the kit and unzip it into a plain folder, for example C:\Video on Windows or ~/Video on Mac. Not your Desktop or Documents if they sync to OneDrive or iCloud: sync apps lock files while videos render.
  2. Open Claude Code in that folder. In the Claude desktop app, open the Code tab and choose the folder. In Codex, open the folder the same way.
  3. Paste the install prompt (below). Claude copies the editor into your skills folder, checks your computer and tells you what’s missing in plain words. It asks before installing anything.
  4. When the check says “All set”, you’re ready.
Install prompt

Install the AI Impact Editor for me. The kit is in this folder.

1. Copy the ai-impact-editor folder into my skills folder: ~/.claude/skills/ for Claude Code, or ~/.agents/skills/ for Codex.
2. Run: python ai-impact-editor/tools/check_setup.py (python3 on Mac)
3. For every [FIX] line, tell me in one sentence what it is and the command that fixes it. Ask me before you install anything, then install the ones I say yes to.
4. In Claude Code, also install HyperFrames: /plugin marketplace add heygen-com/hyperframes then /plugin install hyperframes@hyperframes
5. Run the check again and show me the result.

The first time you transcribe, it downloads a free speech model (a few hundred MB). That’s normal and only happens once.

Edit your first video

  1. Put your video in the folder and tell Claude: Edit C:\Video\raw.mp4 (or describe the feel: Edit raw.mp4, make it feel calm and premium).
  2. Check the cut. Claude lists what it removed: pauses, fillers and restarted lines. Anything it’s unsure about, it asks.
  3. Approve the storyboard. A table of each section, the line you say and the effect that goes there. Change anything you like.
  4. Wait for the render. About 10 to 15 minutes for a 90-second reel on a normal laptop. Every version gets a new number, so nothing is overwritten.
  5. Give notes like you would to an editor. “Bigger hook”, “less in the middle”, “cut the line at 1:13”. It fixes them and renders the next version.

46 effects, with previews

Say Show me the effects and the kit opens a page of every effect playing on real footage. Hover to preview, click to add, or pick a style preset, then copy the prompt it builds for you.

  • Lo-fi phone: quick iPhone videos with light graphics.
  • Studio: tool and news explainers, with real product footage on most beats.
  • Showcase: a signature effect every few beats.

Why the edits look professional

  • It researches every beat. Name a feature and Claude looks for the company’s own demo, product page or docs and uses that, the way a human editor would.
  • Realistic UI, not clip art. When there’s no footage, it rebuilds the real interface (Claude, ChatGPT, a terminal, a phone app) from reference screenshots.
  • A visual change every few seconds. Pages, pop-ups, punch-ins and transitions rotate, so no layout repeats twice in a row.
  • Real proof only. Recreated screens show how a product works. It never invents a result, a stat, a review or a social post.

What it costs

The software in the kit is free and runs on your computer. The only cost is your AI plan. Claude Pro is enough for a few videos a week; if you edit every day, Max gives you more room. Editing uses a fair share of your usage because Claude looks at frames and renders drafts, so give all your notes in one message and start a new chat for each video.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT edit my videos?

Yes, through Codex, which is included with ChatGPT plans. The same kit works in Codex: put the editor in ~/.agents/skills/ instead of ~/.claude/skills/. ChatGPT in the browser can only do simple trims on short clips.

Do I need DaVinci Resolve, CapCut or Premiere?

No. Claude cuts and renders the finished video itself with free tools. You can still open the result in any editor if you want to polish it by hand.

Is it really free?

The kit and the tools it uses are free. You need a paid Claude or ChatGPT plan to run it.

How long does an edit take?

A few minutes to plan and cut, then about 10 to 15 minutes to render a 90-second reel on a normal laptop.

Will it clip my words or leave mistakes in?

Every cut is checked against the audio, and restarted lines are found automatically. Tell it the time of anything it misses and it fixes it in the next version.

Can it use my brand colours and fonts?

Yes. Say Make my brand file, answer six questions, and every edit after that uses your colours, fonts and style.

Where does the B-roll come from?

Official demo videos, product pages and docs for whatever you mention, plus your own screen recordings if you add them. When none exist, it builds a realistic recreation of the app.
